Andiamo riding undies (padded skins)
Andiamo means hurry up in Italian.
We sold more than a thousand of these in the early 2000s, then for some reason—maybe their syntheticness—we quit overnight. I’ve been thinking about them lately, and it’s time to bring them back.
They’re lightly padded seamless boxer-brief styles. They’re not hot, they weigh nothing and don’t absorb sweat, so there’s no threat of clamminess, and they dry out in minutes, so they’re ideal for travel, too. You don’t feel like you’re sitting on a potholder. You can tell something’s down there fiddling around with your crotch, but just barely.
The icing on the cake, if that’s what you want to call it instead of “bonus,” is that Andiamo has been a ONE PERSON COMPANY since 1986. The owner, I forget her name, has three cottage sewers. A real cottage industry.
The price hasn’t gone up since 2004. She told me that and I asked “why?” and she said, “Why do I need more money? At first I thought this was going to be a big thing; now I’m happy to make some retirement money,” or something almost exactly that.
- Black, contrary to the pic on the box.
- Inseam length: 7". Cut it shorter if you want and it won't tear or fray if you don't hem it. You can also cut the elastic off to make the legs looser if it's too tight.
By the way: No returns on underwear. It don't matter if you don't even open them. It's the law, and if you think we want to go into the slammer for taking returns on undies, you're morosely mistaken.
