A year before I became an employee at Rivendell, I worked with Mark to order this Roadeo. This is the bike I have the most miles on, probably because it's been in my possession the longest. I knew from the jump that I wanted a fast bike to ride as long as possible. You can think Mark, Jay, and Grant for all the sensible and bare minimum features like one set of eyelets for fenders and mid-reach calipers to fit bigger tires. You can pick a threaded or threadless steerer, too. I opted for a threaded fork so I could raise or lower my bars as I wish.

I like taking this bike up into the East Bay hills, where there are really good climbs and descents that keep you modest. Sometimes I get comments when I'm out with others on the road in surprise about staying on their wheel, as if on initial inspection the quill stem and rim brakes were a dead giveaway that this was some inferior, or worse, retro bike. To me this was always one of our IYKYK models.

The down tube decal has always been one of my favorites, I love how the letters taper and look like toothpicks or fish bones. The middle of the decal has a black line with stars that looks like it could be a road, but I like to think of it as the fuse on a stick of dynamite or something.

The silver levers on these shifters are nice since so many components have transitioned to black.

These days I'm the only one that still uses tires as skinny as 25mm, but my tire size will increase when I get a new pair. I know I have a lot of room since I managed to squeeze 38mm tires after some experimentation early on.
