RBW Metals and Forces Instruction

RBW Metals and Forces Instruction

Back in 2012 or so when we opened a tiny retail store (Rivendell Bike, Book, and Hatchet), I started what might have become a book but never has. It’s about materials, stresses, and other things that affect bicycles and riding.

It looks like a quiz or a test, but isn’t. It’s a presentation style called Programmed Instruction, and when written well (I’m not claiming to have done that, but I tried), it’s a quick, efficient, effective way to learn…anything. Colleges and the Army and industry have used programmed instruction to get students and soldiers and workers up to speed, pronto.

This booklet has been wallowing for more than a decade. I had a local copy center print it and spiral-bind it, and some earlier versions were tested by Riv emps. As I read through it now, I see room for improvement everywhere, including my wording and opportunities for illustrations.

Here’s a working copy.

The final will be illustrated. A good memorial-day activity! I urge you to follow the instructions, but I think you won’t.
