How to decode your Rivendell's serial number
Share
This applies to our Made-in-Taiwan Rivendells. We have two frame makers in Taiwan, and they both use different systems. Your serial number will either look like this:
or like this:
The letter at the front tells us which place made it. Both places, by the way, are extremely competent and have stringent QC departments. There is zero difference in quality between the two. Bike frames keep our company alive and so we have to have multiple ways to get them. Eggs in different baskets, etc.
If your frame's serial number starts with an M, the first pair of numbers refer to the year of production and the second pair refer to the month. So the green frame above was made in November of 2025. The rest is just sequential.
If your serial number starts with a T, it's a bit more complicated. The third letter refers to the year of production and the fourth letter refers to the month. Here's the reference chart:
So that silver frame up there was made in August of 2023. The rest is just sequential.
This one, a Roadini despite what the shell says, was made in January of '25.
We don't know how to decode serial numbers on MUSA or Japanese Rivendells, although they're probably similar to the M serial numbers shown above. There are also some older Taiwan frames with serial numbers that don't correspond to either of the styles above. I'll try to figure those out and update this blog, but no promises.😝
Regardless of what they mean, the serial number is useful in case your bike gets stolen, so make sure to take a picture of it the next time your bike is upside down.
