Description Warranty/Specs/Other

This is the newest, cheapest, and best value Cygolite light.

After years of selling just one clamp-on bike light---the wonderful Princeton Tec EOS, which has the super groovy feature of working as a head-mounted light, too--I noticed that Xer had this light on it's bike, and grilled him on it. Then Mark got one, too, and Jay, and it looks like we're all going to end up with one.

A blinding little bike light, great features, super value, and Made in the USA.  This is easily the best, one of the smallest and cheapest lights out of dozens of different bike lights bought, used, lost, stolen, broken over the last few years.

Five modes—high, medium, low, and daytime blinking and night blinking. Use LOW to see and be seen while riding at night around town. Use HIGH for faster riding and downhills.  DAY BLINK goes off completely between blinks while NIGHT BLINK alternates between a bright and low powered beam, never blinking "off",  so that the ground in front of you is always illuminated.

It claims 300 lumens, and even a quarter of that is good enough for most riding.

A neat feature is the swivellability of it, which lets you aim it away from cars and oncoming fellow bike riders.

It mounts so easily, no tools needed, and the shims snap into place so you won't fumble with them. It fits bars from 25.4 to 31.8, and if your bar is 22.2mm, just thicken it up with tape or foam.

The quick release mount has a slot which makes fast and easy on and off to switcheroo from one bike to another.  You can mount it above or below the bar, as you like.

Charge it by plugging into your computer using the included USB to mini usb cord.

The rubber mini USB charging port cover may pop open from time to time, but Xirr has ridden this light for three years, and says just press it in hard (not while riding), and all's well.

Less than 4" long (9.5 cm).

Number of LEDs 1

LED Output 300 lumens

Lighting Modes
-- 3 Brightness Settings (hi, medium, low)
-- 2 Flash Modes (day and night)

Run Times
-- High: 2 hours
-- Med: 3 hours
-- Low: 13 hours
-- Flash: 25+ hours

Charge Time 5 hours.

Lithium-ion battery powered, good for at least 500 charging cycles.

USB to mini usb charging cord included.  If you need a wall charger, you can use most any cellphone wall charger with a mini usb plug.

One handlebar mounting bracket included.

System Weight 110g

NOTE:

This light doesn't seem to have been designed with other road users in mind. It's a big round beam, a huge flashlight, so if you have it pointed straight ahead you WILL blind other cyclists and motorists. Aim it down a little and use the low setting.

Features & How to use it
  • commuting, errands around town, S24O, handy little flashlight for walking the dog in the dark

Bright Light Big City Early AM October 24, 2012

This is it - the one you actually both want and need. Without going light crazy this one has great balance of one piece design, excellent light strength and focal zone. Look no further. I always run it on Medium and battery last 3-4 hours. Tried High setting, but not really noticeable difference. Really not clear why anyone would seek more light than this can deliver. Too much more light and you end up with external battery pack weight and inconvenience /more stuff to go wrong.

Super Bright October 18, 2012

I use this light for my commute through crappy streets of Santa Cruz, now I can actually miss a few pot holes for a change. The charge seems to last me at least a week of riding.

Surprising October 3, 2012

I have nice dynohub light systems on two other bikes, but wanted to avoid the "permanence", weight, drag, and cost for my Quickbeam.  I was willing to sacrifice lighting performance.  But the performance of the Metro 300 surprised me.  It rivals my dynohub system, and since my rides in darkness are rarely long enough to challenge the Metro 300 charge-life, it is perfect for me.  I'll be using it on rural (no street lights) gravel roads with confidence.

Shine on September 17, 2012

Used this light on the pre dawn ride to work today and was thrilled to be able to see.  Seattle's potholes can no longer lurk effectively in the dark.  Hope I didn't blind anyone on the trail portion of the ride. . .
