Musa Splats

Everybody who has 'em loves 'em. For what they are, they are perfect.

Splats are rain hats for your shoes, and when the task ahead is a 5-mile trip in a downpour and you have to work all day in the shoes you arrive in, they will save the day. They Velcro on in in two places, and block at least 98 percent of the rain, and that's plenty. You can walk around in them, since they don't cover the sole; but if you can't bring yourself to wear them as you're pushing the cart up and down the aisles at Trader Joe's, you can take them off in two seconds, and put them on again in four, when you're back at your bike again.

We tested several versions, sizes, and fastening systems, and this is the one we settled on. Fashion slaves and slicksters will snicker at the function-to-fashion ratio of 99.9:1, but all Splats care about is keeping your shoes dry cheaply.

Made in Connecticutt from Scottish waterproofed cotton. A 3M reflecto-stripe adorns the rear flap. The Velcro is stitched to Military Spec nylon webbing.

Sizing:
A - Up to US Men's shoe size 7
B - US Men's shoe size 7 - 9
C - US Men's shoe size 9 plus, up to 14 maybe 15 actually. Depends on the shoe; splats have a big range of adjustment.

Sold per pair.

Splat with the reflective strip is for the left foot, MUSA label right foot (but if you're riding around in the UK, India, Thailand, Japan, Australia, NZ, you know the driving rules in your country - then it's the opposite).

Work great, not even that ugly :) March 10, 2016

I wear a women's size 7, and finding rain shoe covers has been nigh impossible. I waffled back and forth about whether to get these, but decided to pull the trigger. I got the size A (smallest) and they fit well, and most importantly, kept my feet dry. I think they're perfect for commuting - fit over regular sneakers, and really easy to get on and off. I just attach them to my bike rack when I'm not using them.

Great Splat! January 20, 2015

I have around a size 11 foot, and size C Splats fit great over my boots. They're good rain blockers, and also good for blocking wind on cold days. They came as a Christmas present, because I kept saying I'd make my own, but now having used them I'd pay the price of new ones. Since they're made of good stiff cloth and they have a wide Velcro strap, they don't flop or flap around in the wind. It would be cool if they extended up the ankle in the front a bit, but I'm not sure that it would improve them any.

For the in-betweeners January 30, 2014

I wear a US 9.5, and the 'B' size fits perfectly. The larger size would've fit like clown shoes. Well, clown shoe covers.

Goofy and good April 23, 2013

No way around it-- these are funny lookin' but functional. I wear canvas shoes while riding in the rain (~6 miles commute), and they keep my feet dry.

I took off one star, because the large is too big for my regular shoes (size 10). They fit better when I wear my winter boots.

Surprisingly, I can get them to work with toe clips but YMMV. (The splat goes over the clip while my shoe goes into the clip.) Would probably work with clipless pedals, but I don't use those. :)

Work well and easy to use February 7, 2013
Reviewer: Keith from Worthington, OH United States
They keep my feet dry, they're easy to put on and take off, and the material and construction are  heavy duty so I expect them to last a long time. UPDATE: I wore these on a 50 mile ride during which it rained all but about 10 minutes.  My shoes stayed 98% dry, feet 100% dry.
