Why Put a Basket on a Nice Bike?
One reason front baskets haven't taken off on good bikes is their association with cheap bikes from years past. People see baskets and think the bike is lousy. That's weird and wrong.
All but two Rivendell employees have at least one bike, and more typically three bikes, with a basket. Our basket of choice is Wald (brand)—made in Kentucky since 1905, and still the most underpriced bicycle accessory in the world. Less than $30 for the best basket ever. Three different styles.
You need a cover, or things will fly out, so we offer a net, too. It's a good system. You can see inside it, and if something soft like a beanie or a pair of gloves is down at the bottom, you can fish it out through the holes.
