  IRD Stem Quill Shifter Mount

product code: SH15

Description

Why did shifters ever disappear from living right here in the most obvious place, smack dab in the middle of your handlebar?  This is just the clamp/shifter mount.  And a really nice mount it is.  Hinged for easy installation.  Barrel adjusters built-in for quick and easy derailer cable adjustments.  You'll have to get the shifters and cables and housing separately.

Great for drop bars, albatross bars, mt bike bars, anytime you want your shifters up high, up close without clutter hoarding up your bars.

Hinged clamp is 22.2mm.  Put a teeny bit of scrap cotton handlebar tape 'round the stem quill before clamping.  Made out of aluminum.

An Elegant Solution July 11, 2012
Reviewer: Melvin Hughes from Sparta, TN United States
I have tried several different handlebars, moving towards a more upright riding position.  My AHH originally had Nitto Noodles with Dura-Ace Barcons.  I tried the Moustache bar first but was uncomfortable in hand and brake positions.

Keven's suggestion of the Albattross bar was a great improvement, especially adding Paul Canti Levers.  But the Barcons, while ok for riding, catch every door I had to push the bike through.  With Thumbies, both the Shimano and the Silver levers never felt convenient or comfortable.

When I saw photos of the stem-mounted lever Mark put together for the prototype Bosco bar, I thought he was on the right track.

Then they came up with this one from IRD.  It is a gem!  I can mount either the Dura-Ace or the Silver shifters and they are exactly where they need to be.  I can still remember riding my first "10-speed" bike back in the late 1960's.  This shifter position worked great then.  It works even better now!  Thanks!
