If you live in a rainy area, or do CX, this seat cover is not overkill. It's perfect! I used this during a CX race, and my saddle was free of mud and grime. I also have used it during general commuting in misty/rainy conditions, and forgot I had it on the saddle, which is excellent. I've used the Brooks saddle cover before, and it actually does not fit my Brooks B17 as well as this does. This Randi Jo Fab cover also goes on a bit easier than the Brooks cover. Not to diss the Brooks cover-- just offering my comparison since I've used both covers.

I own a pair of the old green MUSA saddle covers and they are easier to install than this one. But, this cover is better because it has more "overkill" to it -- I ride where in Oregon where it rains 8 months out of the year and I never ride my Brooks saddles uncovered, even in the summertime when it doesn't rain. That it offers underneath protection is very thoughtful.

My daughter and I have a B68 and B17 between us, and like our Randi Jo's seat covers. Great weather covers and keep the bugs off when transporting the bikes. Her small handlebar/stem/seatpost/bar bags are also really handy. My daughter has a Bartender on her stem and I have a M.U.T. on my extra-long quill (great use of space). Perfect for handy items like cell phone, wallet, keys, extra water bottle...

Works but way over thought

Like any seat cover, this tucks nicely away between the rails and the seat until needed and it kept off the rain/sleet/snow on my recent bikepacking trip, both overnight and when riding.
The under-cover is overkill, at least for my fendered needs and adds to the fiddling needed to use it, but not by much.
Too soon to tell on longevity, though the nose ripped a bit trying to get it off because I'd left the side snaps snapped. My fault, but part of the whole over-thunked thing.
