Description

There are dozens of other general purpose straps out there, and most of them are slightly easier to use than this one. But this one is easy enough to use, and the goal isn't maximum ease of use, once a certain ease of use has been attained. Got it?

Three things set this strap apart:

1. It has a metal buckle, and in the twenty-first century, that's rare.
2. It's striped, and we think you will find, as we have, that the stripes add festive cheeriness to any occasion.
3. It's made in Ireland, and it's the only thing we sell that's made in Ireland. Erin go bragh!

These are the straps we use and prefer for lashing stuff sacks to racks, tripods to bag flaps, panniers to racks, and even heavily loaded baskets that have already been zip-tied to racks, to handlebars (for extra support). We've used them to guy-out tents, as belts, to cinch up pants, and at least one other thing that doesn't come to mind right now.

If you carry things on a bike or on packs of any kind -- in fact, if you do anything that could be construed as even remotely outdoorsy, you need straps.

Long 39" length (aka one meter).

Wow February 5, 2013

I can't believe I vacillated for 3 years before buying two of these. Fittingly, the first time I used them was to secure a bike work stand I had borrowed from a friend to build up a 2012 Betty for my wife on my own 2009 Sam. Bungeeing the work stand to the basket turned out to be very flexy, but two Irish straps around the work stand and the handlebars made for a bomb-proof setup. I was surprised to read in the strap description 2 days later exactly that usage scenario. My subconscious must have filed away that useful bit of information a long time ago. I am ordering more with my next Riv order. Wish there was a longer version, but otherwise perfect.

useful, great design January 4, 2013

I bought two and will get more in the future. The buckle is perfect-- thread it into the jaws and pull 'til tight. Press the lever and it releases. The colors are fun, and the length is long enough for many uses.

Must have item December 11, 2012

I don't know how I ever lived without these.  I carry lots of stuff on my bike and these work better than the bungee cord and p cord I had.  They cinch better and stuff doesn't slide.  It's secure.

Great stocking stuffer.  They don't look exciting but after you use them once, you'll appreciate them and want more.

Most overall useful item in my kit August 28, 2012

Totally agree with the previous reviews, I have about 10 of these, and am ordering more.  The shorts ones are EXCELLENT substitutions for the leather straps on all the wonderful bags that Rivendell sells ... nearly all of which are too short for my non-Rivendell bikes and non-Brooks seats.  They're easier to tighten precisely than those leather straps anyway, and lots prettier than leather with those stripes.  These straps are ALSO way better than bungee cords for securing your bike in your SUV or Pickup truck because they do not stretch, thus allowing less movement.  Same applies for securing extra stuff to your rack or panniers -- they're wonderful.  Finally, nothing beats them for securing your bike when taking the train to a terrific bike riding location.

These things are da bomb! February 3, 2012

Best utility strap on the market. Used in place of plastic buckles, the Irish Strap cinches down tighter, and stays more securely. Several live on my backpacking pack, one lives in my pannier, one (a shorty) lives attached to my seat loops. Makes a perfect belt too. Two thumbs up!
