Moustache Handlebar.

A wonderful handlebar, and a variation of a bar born 104 years ago. It offers the quick and easy braking position of a flat bar with the multiple hand positions of a drop bar and is better than either for a whole lot of riding.

On a commute bike where speed, visibility, quick brake access, and multiple hand positions matter, there is no better bar. You can go fast on the road and get more aero than you can with a standard drop bar. The wider-than-a-drop-bar grip helps you to pull up steep climbs and stay in control on bumpy sprints. You can ride the Moustache Handlebar off-road and reach the brakes instantly.

If you find flat bars too confining, try a Moustache h'bar. If you're now on drops, but want a better position for commuting, or riding in town, or on trails, it may be just what you're after. It fits all road fittings and bar-end shifters.

Made of heat-treated 2014 T6 aluminum, and suitable for off-road riding as well. Use a short stem 7 to 9cm and get the bar higher than the saddle. The Nitto DirtDrop stem is ideal, and the shorter Nitto Technomic Deluxes work well, too. By the way: Nashbar sells what it calls a moustache bar, but it's not this one.

26mm clamp. Fits road brake levers, bar-end shifters. Just like a drop bar. Stem not included.

If you want to use bar end shifters with this bar and your bike is 58cm or bigger then you'll probably need extra long shifter cables and housing.

Nitto's name for the mustache: RM-016L.

Reach = 92 mm
Drop = 45 mm

Note: This RM-016L version of Moustache has a 2 cm longer barend straight grip than the original Moustache (11cm now vs 9cm old). The RM-016L is a Rivendell exclusive.

Requires road drop bar brake levers with a 23.8mm brake clamp diameter. Mt bike brake levers have a 22.2mm clamp diameter and won't work!

Great bars May 13, 2013

Super comfy and versatile bars, they're on my daily driver / tourer.

I added Dia Compe clamp-on knob grips near the stem for an additional super-upright hand position.

Great bar January 25, 2013

These handlebars feel great.  I ride primarily in the front position, with the brakes ready to grab when needed.  I will occasionally grabe the brake grips to ride, but that's just to change hand positions.  The ends are great when you want to just sit back and enjoy the ride.   For a moustache handlebar, I wouldn't change anything on the design - it does exactly as it is suppossed to.

Love the shape but would prefer less drop... July 9, 2012
Reviewer: SJBikeGeek (Lars) from San Jose, CA United States
I really love the shape of the Nitto mustache bars, but my application needed then up really high to work well.
I couldn't get them up high enough for comfort (my 1 1/8 steer tube/head tube is too short to get above my Brooks saddle). So, I turned them upside down and they work well. I might've been better off in this application with Albatross bars, but I didn't want to change out and recable my brake levers from my road bars, which I was replacing.
