Smells like a campfire with the distant aftersmell of burning tires.
Contrary to what others have inferred here, and elsewhere, I cannot smell it on me after a few minutes after showering, and my wife doesn't seem to either.
So put down your wife's Lavender- Calendula-sun-dried-passion-daffodil-hips body wash and reach for the Brown Bar essence of smoldering timber.

No more dry hands, replaces shampoo

Since I've been using this I no longer suffer from dry, cracking skin on my hands in winter. I even use it instead of shampoo and my barber says I have the best hair of any of her customers. It also works on my my long beard which has relaxed considerably after using it. Don't worry about the initial smell. I like it, the bar smells like its been near a campfire when you open it but doesn't stay with you.

Women, Don't Believe the Myth!

Plenty of women DO like Pine Tar Soap! It's the soap of preference for all of the women in my family, young and old alike. Take a chance and give it a try; smells like a great camping trip in the north woods. We're trying Grant's suggestion to put some on and not rinse it off. So far it's working spectacularly! My 29 year old daughter says, "works great, especially as deodorant and I'm a fairly girly girl...keeps ya smelling fresh!"

Since 1999

Riv turned me on to this stuff back in about 1999 and its the only soap I've used since, other than getting stuck in a hotel without it or something. It used to be a little better - darker, heartier - but its still the best stuff for my skin and getting the stink out. My wife has, uhhh, gotten used to it. She doesn't use it, but it doesn't gross her out anymore.

Best purchase I made in my life

Well actually not really. but probably one of the best $5 I've spent. I hate the chemical "fresh" smells of just about every cleaning product ever. But not this. It smells absolutely amazing. Like campfire smoke and beef jerky. You will be tempted to try and eat some, but it's probably not a good idea. This stuff makes your hair soft and your skin not dry. None of those nasty chemicals, just stuff from trees and nuts and vegetables. This product actually makes me want to bathe, which is an achievement in itself.
