I have an original custom from 1996 or so. Still its a great bike and that's all the keeps me from getting another. I see that Rivendell has evolved over the years. My bike can handle roly polys with fenders with a bit of customization. Today, you can have big fatties with fenders no problemo. Go ahead, get one.

Continue to love my Curt Goodrich/JB All-Rounder. I ride it almost every day to work, and have ridden it on several multi-day tours. If I were to do it again, I'd made a couple of small changes (e.g. braze-ons to support "reserve action" front derailer, and braze-ons for front racks). A Custom for a bicycler who really needs a Custom

I am 5'5" and have a 31" inseam. My neck was fused after lots of years riding and some accidents. My Riv is a perfect fit, handles very nicely and is more comfortable than any bicycle I have owned. Grant was a pleasure. We probably talked about family as much as bicycles. Rich built great wheels for me even after we had a "who is shorter/who has the longest legs" showdown. Mark's packaging skills exceed anything said about him by Grant. After 5 years, I still think that the absolute best bicycle to jump on and ride is a Rivendell.

Riv Custom 3 Year's On

've had this bike for 3 years this November.
I asked Grant for a bike that would emulate a Romulus I had at the time.
The frame is 63 cm. ( I should have gotten the 64 that Grant advocated) I ride mainly roads, the primary tires are Jack Browns. During our discussion Grant said something like, 'don't worry, your bike will be great!' Boy, howdy, he wasn't kidding.
I got a bike that was better than I could have imagined.
Paint is HOC Tangelo Orange. This is a very adaptable bike, it is great on rough pave, fire roads and even single track.
Wears various 'bagg-age' with no discernible impact to the great ride.
Its the best riding bike I've ever had. JimD

I have a 2001 Curt Goodrich All-Rounder. I'm only 5'3 with a 28" inseam, so finding a good fitting bike was almost impossible. Grant & Curt fitted me with a 46cm frame with 26" hoops that fits like my favorite old jeans. Not light by any means, but rides faster than you would think. Smooth and stable, very comfortable. The workmanship and Joe Bell paint are impeccable.
A week after I got it, I torqued the fork mount out of alignment when the bike tipped over in my bike rack in the back of my SUV. Sent the fork back to Rivendell and they fixed it very quickly. Couldn't even tell it was repainted.
I also have a Colnago, Bianchi and Bridgestone XO-1, but this is my favorite ride, by far. It's an all-day ride. Thanks, guys!
