We have the best racks out there, but we’re not, still, a great rack source. You can get $55 racks that work as well as the Nittos we sell, but they don’t look as good, and they’re made in China (probably). We have a close relationship with Nitto, and have developed some of these racks to ideally suit our needs and bikes. A rack is such a gangly thing, that when it’s empty, it should at least look good. The Nitto racks are all tubular CrMo steel, fillet-brazed (strong, beautiful, labor-intensive), and are coated with electroless nickel, in a lustrous satin-like finish that Nitto humbly calls “Dull-bright.”
The only non-Nitto rack we offer is the Swiss Pletscher. We like the idea of a Swiss rack, and the Pletscher has been around for more than 60 years. For utility bikes and non-touring use, you’ll find it more than adequate, more than affordable, and the mousetrap on it comes in handy. It fits front or back, too.
Other fine racks: Tubus, Surley, Delta, Blackburn…
Don't buy a rack from us until you read the warning below the products at the bottom of this page.

RACKS AND WARNINGS (required reading)
Nitto makes the best racks in the world, but they’re not unbreakable. You have to use them correctly and pay attention.
Keep the racks tight, no wiggling. Wiggling leads to fatigue and failure, and it’s not the rack’s fault.
Don’t overtighten the rack. Best is to use locktite on the threads, lockwashers additionally, then tighten snugly without showing off. Check regularly. Before every ride is unrealistic, and yet if we say “once a month”, that leaves us a big liability window. Every OTHER ride? Supply the loctite yourself. Every hardware store in the world has it, and so does Target, etc.
If you know yourself to be somebody who cannot take responsibility for following instructions and behaving rationally and safely without supervision, and/or the kind who is quick to blame others for incidents in which you were the only one who had a hand in it (rack mounting, for instance), then please stay away.
We are proud of Nitto’s quality. We are impressed with its conservative approach to design, materials, manufacturing, and capacity rating. We’re lucky to be in the Nitto loop in any way. Once you buy and use a Nitto product, so are you. Please live up to the high standards that Nitto has for itself, that Rivendell has for itself, and that any bicycle rider, and any adult, ought to have for hermself.
Capacities: Mini front rack or Mark’s: 4.4 lb. Top Rack: 13lb Rear rack, Med or Big: 44lb Big Front racks: 30lb
Note: Now and then you may see a photo on our site of racks being used with what seems to be heavier loads than listed here. Nope. We weigh everything. It’s an illusion.
